you everything is looking good on most of the beltways. outside for a live shot and we'll show you 70 at 29 and things are looking good at this point. another check on traffic in less than ten. megan on to you. the man who brought football back to baltimore is in the hospital this morning. art modell is at johns hopkins reported in grave condition. the 87-year-old baltimore icon modell purchased the cleveland browns back in 1961. then moved the franchise to baltimore in 1996. that move made him a hero to the city. he sold the interest to steve bisciotti and went on to be active with the team taking the golf cart out to practice to watch them. he is also a known philanthropist in the community. we'll keep you updated on his condition this morning. all right, are you on the bandwagon? if not hop on bard. tonight the o's and the yankees are meeting at camden yards for a four game series. and this could be the most important games in what has

athletes will be in london and they're going to be at the inner harbor at the ampitheater at 4:00. something to keep in mind, monday is going to be busy downtown. news around the nation right now. two teenagers got creative when they tried to rob a wal-mart. this happened in florida. police say the two buy buoys went into the store and one of them actually had a badge and a pellet gun at his hip and the one boy took some trading cards to the store manager. approached him and the other teen said he was a cop. he pretended to arrest his friend even went as far as putting him in handcuffs in the parking lot. >> he thought it would -- kind of i guess fit there. in the whole thing with the gun and the badge. >> the store manager didn't believe the story. she actually called the real police and the two teens were arrested. they say the 17-year-old there will was no plot there, no plan. just a trip to wal-mart that got a little out of control. all right, you've heard the old saying before. it was curiosity that kaled the

cat? turns out maybe applying to skunks as well. look at the video. students in milwaukee discovered this poor guy in a parking lot with a plastic jar over his head. it was stuck. they did manage to trap the skunk underneath a garbage can the animal specialist got the skunk. it somehow freed itself from the jar and ran off and is okay. so -- little bit of curiosity with that skunk got him in some trouble. stay with us this morning. because now you have another reason to visit baltimore's national aquarium. it just got a new guest, we're going to introduce you and it doesn't live in the water though. we'll introduce you to the new guy now calling aquarium home. >> it's maryland's oldest holiday, defenders' day. i'm sherrie johnson live at fort mchenry with what more on what you and your family can take advantage of this weekend to celebrate the holiday. what does fall smell like?

[ male announcer ] muller. the european for yummy. thank you for joining us on this thursday morning. newly released video surveillance video showing a maryland police officer pistol whipping a teenager and this video uncovers the officer's apparent lies about what happened that night. abc2 news linda so is here to explain and linda it really appears this officer's version is a lot different from what he originally said. >> reporter: megan the officer wrote in his official report the gun fired as he was being assaulted by the teen but the video shows something completely different.

take a look. you can see the 19-year-old ryan dorm enter the frame first. then the officer with his gun drawn swings his right hand and hits dorm in the face with his service weapon. the gunfires and a flash goes off. incident happened in february as dorm walked home after leaving a gas station. the officer and his partner followed dorm and his friend into the gas station because they thought a robbery was about to happen. no crime was committed though. attorney jim bell represents the teen who's been in trouble with the law before. >> the communities -- stereotypes, that the young black person was some sort of menace and he wasn't. >> reporter: the teen was arrested, and all charges were eventually dropped. but he still served four months in jail. the officer was charged with several crimes last month. linda so, abc2 news. all right, linda, thanks so much. this weekend, there's a lot going on in the area. we've been telling you about the o's oh game which is obviously a big story. but why not head to fort mchenry with the family?

there's plenty to do. over the abc2 news' sherrie johnson with all the festivities. >> reporter: megan i have to tell you i love history and just having a ball out here. they gave me a hat and they've gaven me a jacket. i'm having a ball out here. i'm out here this morning with ranger jim and ranger tim and you know we're talking about maryland's oldest holiday. defenders' day. but this morning you know we have some flag folding going on. what's happening here? >> well, defenders' day and the "star-spangled banner" weekend is all about the american flag and our national anthem. what better way to commemorate that than to fold a replica of the flag? this is something you can do this weekend here at fort mchenry. adults, kids, families it's a great hands-on active. to really get into history to fold the flag here at the birthplace of our national anthem. >> reporter: and tell me about a few activities and events -- i mean this was a family event. you can bring the kids out. tell me some things that people can enjoy if they come out this weekend. >> well, on friday, you can

mchenry. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. >> all right, you're having fun. five things to know this morning. it's orange pump day in baltimore county. and today is the day to ironman cal ripken will have the statue dedicates. the orioles trail the yankees one game in the a. l. east. today amazon set to announce new products. and they could announce a new kindle. this comes one week after the company said it sold out of its popular kindle. so if you are in glen burnie, you can enjoy a meal. this is happening at gin oughts, they're opening a new location on richie highway near fifth avenue. back in 1957 former baltimore colts, they founded gino's with a friend. the first location was in baltimore and now there's another in glen burnie. bwi airport now welcoming spirit airlines. its newest carrier. spirit will begin service from bwi to dallas/ft. worth and fort lauderdale as

some sunshine in here as we go through the day and also i'm not going to rule out more scattered showers momming up through the day. mainly isolated showers and let me correct that. the reason why, is that we have this surface trough and you can see the purple dotted line here. this is going to be over us today and tomorrow. as long as that's around i'm going to keep the stray shower in the forecast. high pressure is off to the west and battle with the surface trough but it will be a mainly dry day on tap. the tropical satellite shows two storms out here. and they are both hurricanes. so we have hurricane leslie and this is hurricane michael. and look at this. that looks good. this looks so pretty on a satellite image here. you can see that well defined eye. this is going to stay away from us. and also we're looking at leslie here. not looking so good a bit ragged right now encountering up welling and some cooler water and you know hurricanes don't like that and also dealing with some sheer which they don't like. here's the track of hurricane

michael. the winds sustained at about 115 miles per hour. it's a category 3 hurricane as of now. that's the first major hurricane of the year and we look at future trend not picking up on a whole lot for today. that's a good thing because we have big plans tonight with the o's. into tomorrow basically dealing with the dry weather as well but for today it's going to be hot and humid and be prepared for that. 678 degrees by the -- 68 degrees by this evening and still very soupy and hotter tomorrow with 91 degrees. here's the seven day forecast for you. let's jump to the ravens looking pretty good out there. 77-degrees and cooler. we'll take that right mike? >> oh, yeah, hurricane mike? i'm kind of thrilled i'm a major hurricane in the atlantic right now. all right, here's what's going on this morning. we'll pop up some drive times and show you what's going on. again not much in the way of accidents or even construction delays. so if you're going from 695 to downtown baltimore, we'll be dealing with just about a 16 minute commute and as we head say another drive time from83 to 95 about eight minutes and thing are looking really good

thank you for joining us on this thursday morning. it's not very often that a traffic ticket is remembered with fondness or something that motivates you but a woman in south carolina is crediting a seat belt citation for her losing more than 200 pounds. you see jeanette was pulled over for not wearing a seat belt. however, at 408 pounds she couldn't fit it across the frame. she hadn't buckled up for years and she remembers the trooper was very kind and he wrote her up anyway. a year and a half later she is trying to find the same tropate thank him because hee -- trooper to thank him because she lost over 200 pounds.
